Lost and Found Turtles
This tale of turtle tenacity is one of the best I've read in a long time! Both Colby Jack and Big T got out of their enclosures and survived to return home. Colby Jack was found on World Turtle Day. How awesome is that?!

Turtle Woodcut Print
Buy this print at Veal Kutlet's shop on Etsy
I am always amazed at the beautiful things I find when I search for turtle items on Etsy. Today I found this fabulous woodcut print. I thought it was amazing enough to deserve a bit of extra advertising. Perhaps it is a portrait of Pokey's ancestors? Only the artist knows her muse.... Beautiful work Ms. Veal Kutlets!

Top 5 Ways to Celebrate World Turtle Day
Image by Michael Elliott via freedigitalphotos.net
Did you know that tomorrow, May 23rd, is World Turtle Day? Yeah, neither did I. My friend Lolamouse left me and Pokey a comment on my other blog to make sure that we knew. Thanks!! Once I knew, I decided I should put together a list of ways that the average person could celebrate World Turtle Day. The purpose is to raise awareness about turtles. You can help do that without spending a dime!
#5 - Wear something with turtles on it and/or set the desktop background and screensaver on your computer(s) to turtle images. If those around you comment on how cute the photo is or how they love turtles, tell them it is World Turtle Day. Even some of us that want to be in the know didn't know... you know?
#4 - Participate in a contest through facebook to show your support. The latest one offers the Twilight Tortoise as a prize. All you have to do is like a few pages and leave a comment to enter. Not too tough.
#3 - Buy yourself a little something turtle themed... a decorative item for your house, a new necklace, a painting or sculpture... I recommend further spreading the love to those who love turtles by
#2 - Donate to a turtle charity! I will list American Tortoise Rescue here since they sponsor the annual World Turtle Day celebration. Feel free to research other places that need help. There are so many.
#1 - Adopt a turtle or tortoise. What better way to show your support than to take in one of the orphans of the world. Turtle ownership is a big responsibility though, so please make sure you know what you're getting in to before you rush out to buy your child a little green dude.
Thanks for reading and HAPPY WORLD TURTLE DAY everyone!

Turtle Decor of the Day
Buy this item from GalerieAnais on Etsy
I saw a lot of pregnant ladies this weekend ('tis the season?) and it has influenced my choice for turtle decor of the day. If I was them, this is the type of thing I'd want on my baby's walls. It could work for either gender (unless you have purplephobia) and it depicts to animals commonly used to symbolize wisdom. Who wouldn't want it hanging over their baby's crib?

Missing turtle
An important turtle statue has gone missing in Riverside. It was part of a memorial to a girl killed in a hit and run whose killer recently went free due to an overturned ruling. If you know anything, please help get that turtle home.

He's Snapperlicious
Pokey and I don't watch much reality TV. It's not our "thing". However, we do know one reality TV show we'd like to see. You remember the crocodile man? His show was quite entertaining. We think the various people who rescue and relocate snapping turtles deserve a show. Watching animal control round them up could be entertaining, but even better would be seeing the Turtle Man get some prime time attention. If you haven't heard of him yet, I highly recommend visiting his website. But... I'm warning you... you'll probably become addicted to watching him capture snapping turtles with his bare hands. His slogan describes it well: Snapperlicious.
