Thriving Despite Amputation

Noel the turtle has proven that amputees can survive in wild! This research could save many injured turtles from being euthanized in the future. Who knew a turtle could swim hundreds if miles on three fins?! I'm glad someone finally tried to find out. Thank you Australian Wildlife Hospital for having faith in Noel the sea turtle and saving her life!

  1. Hi Rachel -

    Noel swam 1,600 miles without a fin. That's amazing. She also weighs over 200 lbs. which is crazy big in my view. Thank you. :)

  3. @Charlie - I'm glad you agree Noel is amazing! I think 200 lbs is average for a green sea turtle... those shells are heavy!

    @Jessica - I'm glad you found the story entertaining/inspiring! :)

  4. It makes sense. Animals can lose a leg for any number of reasons in the wild. It isn't an automatic death sentence. I'm surprised this wasn't tried before.
