The Hungry Honu

The Fed may remove honu from "threatened" list at the request of the Hawaiians. Apparently they've recovered so well since being placed on the list of protected animals that they are threatening a local fish population. So, to put things back to "normal", the Hawaiians want to harvest and eat a few Honu. I'm not sure how I feel about that... You?

  1. I think if they where well managed as they spoke of it would be so bad. I know in my state the DEP keeps a watchful eye on crabs, making sure people are keeping with the size.

  2. I'm glad to hear there is a well managed plan in existence! I do believe it can be done... though I won't be eating any honu. :)

  3. Hi Rachel -

WOW. Mankind destroys and then protects to replenish the supply, and then is in trouble again by having too many green turtles. Our hand in nature can be troubling sometimes. :)

  4. Yeah... I am just not sure how we prove that it is the sea turtles causing the depletion of that fish population. We humans are eating several fish populations into threatened status...
